Good Morning Robinson Wresting Fans

As always, I want to thank you for all that you do to support our program!  Since my last message in mid-December, we have experienced great success, and without your help in the past and present, these success wouldn't be possible!  At the bottom of the page, you can follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook and forward this message to a friend.  If you know someone who should get these messages, please forward it to them and send me their information!

Below I will chronicle the last few weeks. Please keep reading... I promise you it will be worth it! :)  I forgot to mention in my last email that congratulations are in order for Dallas Smith who won his 100th match at Ironman.  It is great to have him back!
Millbrook Champions - 10 in the finals, 7 Champs and 14 place winners!  We won the tournament by over 100 points!
Jake Pinkston finished 7th at the Beast of the East, and he also won the Most Falls in the least amount of time award!
The last time I updated you, we were getting ready for 2 dual meets a Meet at Stuart and The Beast of the East in Delaware.

The weekend before the Dual meets, we had several athletes travel to Stuart high school to get Varsity experience.  We had a great showing with several place winners including Seniors Eric Wicks and Josh Trowell who finished second.  3rds by Brandon Greyson, Mason Rockman , 4ths by Nathaniel Levinson, Avery Henry and Max Sears.  All in all it was a productive weekend!  Here are the brackets and results.

The Dual meets were against Potomac Senior High School and Herndon  High School.  We continued to wrestle well defeating Potomac 66-15 and Herndon 65-6.  Individual results can be found at: http://www.robinsonathletics.com/index.cfm?action=main.teamarticle&id=26627&articleID=12537254

The following weekend, we traveled to Newark Delaware to compete in the Beast of the East at the University of Delaware.  This is arguably one of the toughest tournaments in the country.  We were missing a few of our studs for the event, but we competed well!  As a team we place 32nd out of over 100 teams, but for the second year in a row, we placed two wrestlers in the top 8.  At 160 lbs, Zak Depasquale, after last years season (we thought it would be career) ending leg injury, finished 7th.  He was seeded 12th, but improved on his seed to finish strong!  At HWT, after a 3rd place finish at Ironman, Jake Pinkston finished 7th in the tournament.  He also finished with one of the individual awards with the most falls in the least amount of time (see the above picture)!!  All of the teams' results can be found at:

The day after Christmas, the team traveled to Manheim, PA for the 43rd annual Manheim Lions Holiday tournament.  We finished 6th as a team out of 14 teams, and although this wasn't the team result we wanted, we finished the tournament well!  We had 2 wrestlers in the finals, but both were defeated.  Austin Riggs at 126 lost to a tough Freshman from Easton, and Hwt. Jake Pinkston lost to the same wrestler as last year from Kiski Area.  Finishing 3rd were 106 Greyson Olimpo, 138 Dallas Smith, 160 Zak Depasquale and Daniel Mika at 182.  Brandon Greyson was 6th at 113.  Here are the brackets: http://gallery.mailchimp.com/1ff3e1c3c176ab6be0efb4b56/files/Final_brackets.pdf

After Manheim, we needed some rest, and a good tournament to show our strength!  We traveled on Saturday January 5th to Millbrook in Winchester, VA.  This tournament was just what we needed!  We put 10 of our 14 wrestlers in the finals and we had 7 champions!  We won the tournament over 2nd place St. Christopher's of Richmond by over 100 points.  We really wrestled well!  Champions were 126 Austin Riggs, 132 Dane Robbins (who defeated a wrestler who beat him earlier in the year), 138 Dallas Smith, 160 Zak Depasquale, 170 Cole Depasquale, 182 Daniel Mika (who won in the finals against a wrestler who beat him earlier in the year) and Hwt Jake Pinkston.  Runners up were  106 Greyson Olimpo, 120 Mason Rockman, and 195 Max Sears. 145 Avery Henry and 220 JP Vittori were 4th, 152 Josh Trowell was 5th and 113 Brandon Greyson was 6th.  It was also great to see a lot of our fans including the infamous MATT TRUE!!!

We also had several wrestlers get Varsity experience at Edison High School.  We are trying to put as many people in high level competitive situations as possible.  Several wrestlers won several varsity matches.  They included Nick Mercuro at 106, Tho Nguyen at 126,  Alex Min at 132, Nick Utech at 138,  Zach Israel at 170 and Austin Southern at 220.

After a great weekend we met our District rivals Centreville and Westfield  at home when we honored our Armed services veterans!  This is the presentation during the event: http://gallery.mailchimp.com/1ff3e1c3c176ab6be0efb4b56/files/Armed_Services_Night_2013.pdf

We had a great crowd or alumni and veterans, and we wrestled OK.  We defeated Centreville 55-15 and Westfield got the best of us 34-29.  Here is a link to the results page: http://www.robinsonathletics.com/index.cfm?action=main.teamarticle&id=26627&articleID=14612608

I am proud to be associated with so many honorable and brave soldiers.  We spend so much time training these kids for competition, raising money and dealing with high school issues that we tend to forget the sacrifice that so many people make for our freedom.

Last weekend we traveled north to York, PA to compete in the NHSCA final 4 wrestling festival.  This is always a tough event with nationally ranked teams.  We ended up competing against a nationally ranked team out of New Jersey right off the bat, and we handed them a defeat!  We had some heros during the match, but none were as significant as Cole Depasquale's triple overtime thrilling victory against the wrestler who was  4th in the Beast of the East.  We won the match 37-29 and it was a very positive start to the day.  After Don Bosco, we faced a flu depleted team Souderton Area, PA.  We defeated them 60-17 to wrestle the 3rd ranked team in the nation Wyoming Seminary.  It was a nip and tuck, emotional battle that came with lots of ups and downs, but we came out ahead 33-32. Austin Riggs got us started at 126 with a huge pin against a nationally ranked wrestler, and the chips started falling our way! It was an exciting victory, and it put us in the finals against the #1 ranked team in the nation Blair Academy.  They had a little too much for us and defeated us 61-6.  We finished 2nd in the event, and although licking our wounds, we felt good about the weekend! Below is a link to the results!

In York it was also great to see so many parents who were cheering!  It is also great to see Mr. Beattie and Mr. Borrelli as well as Mr. Sedgwick supporting us around the country!!!

This weekend, we will travel to Colonial Forge for the USMC Ultimate Challenge.  Information can be found at http://www.usmcultimatechallenge.com/

Next Wednesday, we will be at home to celebrate our Senior class.  I hope you all can come out at 7 PM when we face the Mount Vernon Majors.

I promise I'll get with you next week!  Thanks to everyone who has donated to our program!  We try to get as many wrestlers competing as we can, and without your support this wouldn't be possible!

Have a great week, and Thanks for reading!!!!

Bryan Hazard
