Installment # 7 - Turning our sights to the VERY near future!

Hey Robinson Wrestling fans,

Before I get to last weeks results, I again want to say thank you to all of you who have supported the Robinson wrestling program over the years.  We couldn’t be here without you!

We have one more week of regular season, and then the true test begins.

·         On February 4-5, we will travel to Centreville High School for the Concorde District tournament,

·         On February 10-12, we will travel to Fairfax High School for the Northern Region tournament

·         On February 18-19, we will be at HOME for the AAA VHSL State tournament!

As seen above, on February 18th and 19th, Robinson will again hold the AAA VHSL State tournament.  There are a few things you can do to help.

1.      Come support us!  Did you realize that in 1981, Robinson won the state title in the same field house where we will be competing?… It would be incredible to match that feat 30 years later, but we are going to need some luck, great draws and the support of the “RAM” nation!  I will send out a schedule soon!

2.      Donate a personal or business ad to the award winning event program.  It is completely tax deductable, and the money will offset the cost of printing and put some money in the wrestling account.

3.      Donate some food to the hospitality room.  Again, it would be a great tax write-off!

4.      Say your prayers for health of the competitors and NO SNOW!!

This week, we have a quad on Wednesday at Oakton High School with Oakton, Herndon and Wakefield.  On Saturday, the JV will travel to Hayfield for a tournament, and the Varsity will travel to Penn-Delco Pennsylvania (Sun Valley High School) for a one day 8 team tournament.

Last weekend, some of our wrestlers stayed at home to train for the upcoming weeks, but still others were traveling and competing for TITLES!

Some of our varsity wrestlers travel South West to Stuart’s Draft High School for the WhiteWave Foods Cougar Classic.   We were able to get some well deserved experience for our hard working athletes, and we had some GREAT success.  Of the 14 wrestlers we brought, we had 2 Champs (Shon Topper and Wes Jones) , 2 runner-ups (Andrew Hite and Tim Fitzpatrick) and 3 thirds (Jake Grose, John Buono and Jake Pinkston).  Many of our other athletes won matches almost to place, but the came up just short.  Even with many starters at home, we were able to out distance Woodbridge High school and finish as the tournament Champions.  It is great to see success from athletes who don’t always get the chance to shine at the varsity level.  Pay close attention to 130 where Andrew Hite finished 2nd.  During the finals introductions his bio was he was 2-0 in his fist ever Varsity event!  We were so proud to see the growth that he has made this season!!!!  Below are our results:

On Saturday, our JV wrestlers competed in the JV district event and we had some success.  It is great to see the up and coming athletes.  At 152, Zach Isreal was the champion and Josh Trowell was the runner-up.  At 112, Anand Pesaud was 3rd , at 125 Cyrus Keyvanfar was 3rd  and at 130 Ethan Malamud also brought home the bronze.  At 135 and 145 Avery Henry and Chris Watson were 4th.  Others were close, and hopefully will be chasing some hardware when they wrestle next season!

I am continuing my search for old alumni.  If you know of anyone whom we are missing, please send me their information.  Also, remember to sign up for our online newsletter, our facebook pages and our blog.
