Good Afternoon Robinson wrestling fans! Before I get started with this longer than usual installment, I want to thank you fro all of the hard work and effort you have put into the program over the years! We have come a long way, and our kids continue to improve every day! This improvement wouldn't be possible without the help of many people, and you are one of them! This message will have a lot of information, and will also have a few ways that you can get involved! Please forward this message to anyone you wish to, and please send me any email addresses of alumni or friends so I can get them information. Pig Roast-June 1: Next weekend, June 1st, we will host our annual Pig Roast. This year, we will hold the event at the Town Hall in Clifton, VA. We are asking for $20 to cover costs and make a few bucks for the program. Wristbands will also be available for and extra $20 if you are over 21 and want to patronize the Port City brewery tent. We will have lots of food, music, fun games and door prizes. We are also working on some silent auction items. THIS EVENT ISN'T LIMITED TO ROBINSON WRESTLING FANS!!!!! Tell all of your friends and community members... we hope to have a big crowd! As you are all aware, we had a phenomenal season, and I want to thank all of our great fans who traveled around the country watching us. There are too many to count, but if you came to any events this year, you are appreciated! It was great to feel like the state tournament was a home event! We had lots of supporters, and you all were very vocal!!!! End of year awards: As always, I want to thank Robinson wrestling alums Mark Eagen and Mo Harris and also Tom McGinn from K & R industries for their help with our awards. Varsity Team Award - Dallas Smith JV Coaches Award - Alex Min Varsity Coaches Award - Jack Bass JV Most Improved Award - Nick Mercuro Varsity Most Improved Award - Joe White 4 Year letter winners - Dallas Smith/Emily Unwin Kids have been competing!!! Since the end of the season, our athletes have been training hard, and I know this training will pay serious dividends next season. Thanks to Sam Smith and his "HOUSE of PAIN" for the tireless effort to make these kids better. I also want to give a big thank you to Steve Wilcox who gives of his time and body on a daily basis for the good of kids! Our coaching staff (especially Coach Wilcox, Harrison, Jimmo and Jones) have been working with our men and these workouts will pay dividends in the very near future) Speaking of paying dividends, many of our kids have been competing in this off-season with some great results! Immediately following the season, Avery Henry finished second in the Virginia Challenge Junior state tournament in Norfolk! State runner-up Cole DePasquale became a NHSCA sophomore all-american finishing 6th at the national event in VA Beach. Dane Robbins finished in the top 12 of his bracket in the Junior nationals losing an overtime match n the blood round. During the same weekend, we sent several athletes to the Flo-Nationals in Indiana PA with mixed results, but it was great experience none-the-less. Future Ram Tyler Hazard won his 125 lb weight class at the Journeymen nationals in Albany New York, Just last weekend was the State national team qualifier in Richmond. Jack Bass won his weight class and was voted Outstanding wrestler. in the finals, he decisively defeated 2 X returning state champion Neal Richards of Matoaca HS 5-3, 10-2. Tyler Hazard finished 6th in his Cadet Freestyle debut. All-Met awards: According to the Washington Post, we were the second best team in the area, but several of our athletes were recognized in the All-met section. Our lone first team member was our state Champion Jake Pinkston. He capped an amazing season with his first state championship! 2nd team honors went to state runner-up Jack Bass at 152. Honorable mention went to Austin Riggs (120), Dallas Smith (138), Zak DePasquale (160), Cole DePasquale (170) and Daniiel Mika (182). We were represented well... The 5 K was again a success: Two weekends ago, we help the second annual Stand-up for our Warriors 5K benefiting the Fisher House and The Wounded Warrior Project. We had a great (a little wet) day to run, and we had about 120 runners. We were able to raise money for a great cause! As you know Coach Bill Hildbold's mother, most knew her as Mema, was an active part of anything that her family was a part of; especially the Robinson wrestling program! She will be missed! Congratulations to Mike Weinsheimer and the birth of his first child in April 15. Her name i s Emily Lyn and Mom, Sara and she are doing great! A few weeks ago, Robinson wrestling was well represented at the inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame class. Coangratulations to Coach Epperly, Johnny Epperly and Bobby DeProspero!
