Before my installment, as always, I want to say thank you for all that each and every one of you to make Robinson a great place! We would not have the success we enjoy without the history that you have brought!
Congratulations go to the Rams for a great weekend! The Rams who outlasted a surging Westfield team, secured the Northern Regional Championship by a small 6 point margin. We were led by 9 wrestlers who moved into the finals. It was an incredible semi-final round, and as always we had some heros!
In the finals, we didn't have quite the success that we enjoyed in the semi finals, but we battled every match tough. We had two regional Champions in Jack Bass and Jake Pinkston, who by coincidence enjoyed their 100th victories in the last 2 weeks. Jake joined the century club in the first round of Districts and Jack enjoyed his century mark in the first round of the region.
Our other Finalist, unfortunately, didn't come home with the gold, but they did punch their tickets to states. At 106, Greyson Olimpo was 2nd as were Austin Riggs (126), Dane Robbins (132), Dallas Smith (138), Zak Depasquale (160), Cole Depasquale (170), and Daniel Mika (182). Jow White will be a state alternate at 195 as he finished 5th. Below, I have copied the schedule for the state tournament. We will travel tomorrow to Oscar Smith in Chesapeake, VA. On a sour and sad note, as many of you have probably heard, or great sport has been snuffed out of the Olympic games. As many of us understand, young people fight their whole lives to be an Olympian, and although only one athlete per weight qualifies each year, the dream is always there. With the decision by the IOC yesterday, that dream is dead for many young men and women! Let's hope that clearer heads prevail. There are petitioons circulating, and there is also a facebook page that has been set up! I hope you will join the fight!
