Post -season installment #4

Good Morning Robinson Wrestling Fans,

I hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather, and I hope everyone who celebrates Easter had an enjoyable one.  I am always excited to see the responses to emails that I send, and I hope you are passing on this information to anyone who isn’t on our list.  I, as always, want to thank each and every one of you for your part in the Robinson tradition!  We wouldn’t be here without you!

Since my last installment we have enjoyed some great press.  The Washington Post winter All-met team came out, and we were VERY well represented!  We had 2 first team members in Brooks Martino and Jake Smith.  We had  2 second team members in Dallas Smith and Jack Bass, and we also had 4 members make the honorable mention team in Lucas Sodergren, Santiago Valdez, Wes Jones and Jake Pinkston.  You can see the whole article at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/highschools/2010-2011-winter-all-met/wrestling/.

This past weekend Jack Bass competed in Akron, Ohio in the FILA Cadet national tournament.  He finished in the top 8, one match away from All-American status.  He moved up a weight to 152, and he had an AWESOME tournament!

Our state championship rings have been designed and ordered, and we are hoping to subsidize the $220 cost for the rings with donations.  We would love to raise all of the money.  In total, for wrestlers, coaches and administrators, they will cost upwards of $5000.  Your donation will be totally tax deductible, and we would REALLY appreciate it!   Again, if you wish to donate any amount to the rings, you can make your check out and send it to:

Brooks Martino’s brother, who was also a Virginia State Champion is currently wrestling for Brown University.  Due to budget cuts, their program is on the chopping block, and as a wrestling community, we need a call to arms!  He and I are asking you to read the following article http://www.themat.com/article.php?ArticleID=23519&amp&amp go to their page http://www.causes.com/causes/606910-support-brown-sports-save-brown-wrestling,  sign their petition and possibly send an email to their administration.  Wrestling has made a tremendous impact in my life, and I’m hoping it has had a similar effect on you.    I am worried for our sport.  Without college programs, there will be little opportunity for high school athlete to compete at the next level, and our sport could die!  There are teams dropping constantly without a female equivalent, with little revenue and without being a media darling.  I hope you will give this cause a chance because it will impact all of us in the long run!   You can also checkout their facebook page at:  http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=179304362121026.

Coach Wilcox recently sent me the following article about our wonderful sport from the NY times.  Give it a read.  It is GREAT!  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704050204576218892968202376.html
