ROBINSON
WRESTLING

Good afternoon Robinson wrestling fans,

Happy Holidays to all of you.  We are so blessed to have you in our lives, and without you, we wouldn't be where we are today.

It has been a busy couple of weeks, and we have been competing well.  In our first week of competition, our JV competed in many of their first live bouts.  It is great to see kids compete and appreciate how long 4-6 minutes feel.

That weekend, our varsity team traveled to Front Royal, VA to compete in the Skyline Elite opener.  We finished a close 2nd out of 12 teams to Colonial Forge.

Individual place winners were:
Champions – Jack Bass (152) and Jake Pinkston (285)
2nd – Zach DePasquale (160)
3rd – Greyson Olimpo (106) , Austin Riggs (126)
4th – Avery Henry (138), Joe White (170), Daniel Mika (182)
7th – Dane Robbins (132), Ralph Mpanu (120)
8th - Brandon Greyson (113)
9th - Ethan Malamud (145)
10th – Prescott Martin (195), Austin Southern (220)

Mr. Ronald White took some great pictures.  You can see them at http://ramswrestling.shutterfly.com/.  We appreciate Mr. White and all he gives to our program!

We had several others travel to New Jersey for the Caruso Classic, we didn’t have great success, but our wrestlers gained valuable experience!

A week later, our JV made great strides wrestling in their second competition at Hayfield.  Their improvement has been staggering.  The following weekend, we travelled to Cuyahoga Falls, OH to compete in the Ironman.  This is one of, if not the, toughest tournaments in the nation.  After day one, we sat in 8th place, but we finished 14th out of about 80 teams.   5 of our guys finished in the top 12, and Jake Pinkston finished 3rd at heavyweight.  I was proud of the guys, but I realized that we were inches away from being in the top 10.  We’re fighting for that now!  Here is a link to our results:  http://s102.trackwrestling.com/tw/dualmeets/EventMatches.jsp?TIM=1355772411408&twSessionId=piqvaillazzbvau&eventId=2349071

Last Wednesday, we hosted a successful JV Dual meet event.  There were 6 other teams here, and the fruit of our labors with our young athletes is showing!  The future of Robinson wrestling is in good hands!

Last Thursday, we had two dual meets against district Rivals Chantilly and Oakton.  We won 67-12 against Chantilly and 62-9 against Oakton.  We came ready to wrestle!

Last week, in the national rankings, we were ranked in the top 40 by Amateur Wrestling News.  Although rankings aren’t that important to our success, it is the first time we have been honored in many year!  Here is the link to the article: http://awn.theopenmat.com/2012/12/awn-prep-40-high-school-team-rankings-december-13-2012/

Wednesday night, we will travel to Herndon High School to wrestle travelingd Potomac Senior High School.  Matches are at 6 and 7:30.  I hope we can see you there!

This weekend, we are travelling to Delaware for the prestigious Beast of the East at the University of Delaware.  You can follow the tournament on www.trackwrestling.com or www.trackwrestling.com/mobile.  I also send close to real time results on twitter (@Robinsonwrstl) and on Facebook (Robinson Secondary School wrestling team).

January 9th we will celebrate Alumni night and Armed Forces appreciation when we host Centreville and Westfield.  Please put it on your calendar.

Next week, I will be sending a special fund raising email.  We will be doing a campaign to raise $10,000 toward our $20,000 budget.  If you need a late tax deduction, do I have a deal for you!  I will send it next Monday!

In alumni news, I know several of our former athletes are finishing up college classes for the semester, and a few are graduation.  Steven Flutsch is graduating from GMU, and Ryan Gawne (08) graduated from Penn State in May and was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy.  He is currently in flight school in Corpus Christi, TX, training to be a navy pilot.

If anyone else has important things happening in their lives, please let me know!  Also, if you have contact with any other Robinson alumni and friends, send their info my way.  We lost about 150 recipients when emails bounced back to me after the change to the new email service!

For our schedule information, you can visit, www.robinsonathletics.com.

Thanks for all that you do, and I hope to see you this week!

Sincerely,
Coach Hazard
