Installment #9 - Moving on to Regionals

Good Afternoon Robinson Wrestling Fans!

I want to thank you all again for the support that you have given our team over the last 39 years!  We wouldn’t have the success that we have enjoyed without your hard work, dedication and sacrifice!  I know a few of you have children who have competed or that compete elsewhere, but remember, you will always be a Ram at heart!

Again, we are hosting the State tournament on February 18-19.  Many of you have graciously offered your help, but we need a few more people to contribute to the program, hospitality room or mat sponsorship.  I have attached a letter to this email.  If you are reading this installment on our blog or on facebook, or if you can’t see it on this email, shoot me a note at bthazard@fcps.edu.  I will send you the information.  All donations are tax deductible, and you will be recognized throughout the tournament.

Did you realize that 30 years ago, next week is the anniversary of Robinson’s 1981 State title?  Do you remember where you were when it occurred.  Some of you may have been competing, coaching or watching it from the stands of James W. Robinson Secondary School.  Wouldn’t that be incredible if history repeated itself 30 years later?

These next few weeks are going to fly by, so hopefully, I will keep you updated in a timely manner!  It was great to see many of you at the district tournament, and I hope to see even more of you this weekend as we travel to Fairfax High School for the Regional tournament.  It is always incredible to see so many familiar faces when we compete!

This past weekend went well.  Unfortunately, we didn’t come home with the championship that we’d hoped for, but our athletes performed famously!  In prior years our performance would have garnered the victory, but we fell just short of the prize.  While it stings, hopefully it will be motivation for our athletes this coming weekend.

We finished in second place in the district by 6.5 points, but we did move 13 out of 14 to the regional tournament, we had 10 wrestlers compete in the finals with 7 champions, and we put ourselves in a position to do well this coming weekend.  I was pleased with the intensity and technique of our athletes.  If we can have results similar to this at Regionals, we can sleep easy at night!  Below is the team’s individual placements.

103 – Lucas Sodergren – Champion

112 – Dallas Smith – 3rd
