Installment #4 - Great weekend, busy week!

Good Day Robinson Wrestling Fans!

As always, I can’t express my appreciation for everyone’s hard work over the last 39 years!  We continue to improve, but none of that improvement would be possible without all of you who came before!

Before I begin with the results from last week, I want to remind everyone of the match this Wednesday.  At 6 PM we will wrestle our JV dual and at 7:30 PM we will wrestle our varsity dual match against district rival Centreville High.  At about 7:15 PM, we will celebrate and recognize our senior class of Shon Topper, Kevin Vasquez, Jackson Maxey, Wes Jones, Tim Fitzpatrick and John Buono.

During this match, we will also show our pride for our Armed Forces by dedicating the match to all of our troops.  I know many of you are currently serving in the military, and still several more of you are veterans.  If you wish to be recognized during the match, please send me your name, rank and branch of service so we can put you in the program, broadcast your name over the PA and show you on the PowerPoint.  We would also love to see ALL OF YOU during the match.   If you come in uniform, you will get free admission.  We are also trying to show our support by making care packages.  You can bring non-perishable food items, new socks, t-shirts or underwear, shoe or boot laces, magazines, books, games etc… to send to our troops.

Last week was quite successful!  On Wednesday 1/5, we wrestled a tri-match against Chantilly and Fauquier.  We came out very well defeating Chantilly 55-11.  The night was highlighted with a big win by 3-2 victory over a tough competitor.  After Chantilly and Fauquier wrestled, we came out loaded for bear against a very tough Fauquier squad.  The match went well for the Rams.  We won the dual 38 – 28 and it was highlighted by a 3-2 victory by Brooks Martino over the returning state runner-up.  Several of our wrestlers have been on a tear lately, and we are gaining momentum for the end of the year!

Last Friday and Saturday we travelled to Stafford, VA to compete in the Battlefield Duals.   Last year, we finished as the runner-up to Connellsville, PA, and this year the field was even tougher.   We began the tournament with a dual victory over our RIVAL Westfield High School.  The match was, as usual, highly competitive, stressful and tough.  It was a great match to watch if you love this sport.  Out of 14 matches we won 9, but the final team score was only 31-30 for the wrestling Rams as Westfield picked up pins in all of their 5 victories.  After Westfield, we wrestled Tuscarora, MD and defeated them 49-25.  The night was getting late, but the wrestling was still going strong.  Unfortunately, in our last match Friday night, we lost to the metro area’s #1 ranked  team, Archbishop Spaulding 35-31.  We won 7 of 14 matches, but they picked up more bonus points.

On Saturday, we started with a tough Waynesburg, PA team out of the WIPAL in the Pittsburgh area.   We got on a good roll and defeated them  48-21.  Our next match pitted us against Northern Region rival Hayfield.  We were able to pick up some bonus points and defeat the Hawks  58-15.  That victory put us 2nd in our pool and in the championship bracket with Colonial Forge, Connellsville, PA and Spaulding.  Unfortunately we weren’t able to wrestle Spaulding again, but we could avenge our loss to Connellsville from last season.  We saw them next, and we avenged last year’s match with the PERFECT STORM.  We came out with a 46-30 victory!   All of our athletes came out on FIRE, and we were excited.   In our final match  we wrestled Colonial Forge, and although we won ½ of the 14 matches, they were able to squeak out a 30-25 victory tainting our weekend a bit.  Fortunately there was a 3 way tie because Connellsville had beaten Colonial Forge.  Due to the third criteria, we finished second in the tournament!!!!

You can see all of these results on our trackwrestling site.  Click on the high school button and search for James W. Robinson.

This weekend, we will travel to Catonsville, MD to compete in the Mount Mat Madness.  You can see our progress on www.mountmatmadness.com.  I will try to update the tournament on facebook and twitter, but no promises!

Thanks again!  We are getting close to the post season, and we need your support as we sprint to the finish!

Talk to you next week!
